Sagrada Família at Morning Light

About This Place

The Nativity façade of Sagrada Família catches the first direct sunlight of the day, making the stone carvings glow with warm colour. The morning angle also means fewer crowds in the surrounding streets and a cleaner shot of Gaudí's masterpiece.

Where It Is

Basílica de la Sagrada Família - Barcelona, Spain

Things to Know

Tickets & entry
  • Interior tickets sell out days in advance. Book online at least a week ahead, especially for morning slots.
When to visit
  • The basilica opens at 9am, but the exterior and surrounding park can be photographed from first light.

How to Capture It

Capture tips
A wide-angle lens from the park captures the full towers. For detail shots of the façade carvings, a 70–200mm range works beautifully in the warm light.

The Nativity side faces east, so morning light is the magic ingredient. I was set up across the street by 8am and had the most golden 20 minutes I have ever photographed.
