Notre-Dame Cathedral, even during its ongoing restoration, remains one of Paris's most emotionally powerful landmarks. The Île de la Cité surrounding it is the historical heart of the city, with quiet streets, bookstalls along the quays, and views over the Seine.

Notre-Dame is being rebuilt after the 2019 fire and is open to visitors again. Walking around the island and seeing the cathedral from every angle is worth the time — each side tells a different part of the story.
